Teslacam Terms of Use
Effective date: 1 June 2026 Version: 1.0
1. Who we are
Teslacam is owned and operated by Magrathean UK Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16955343, with registered office at 16 Caledonian Court, West Street, Watford, England, WD17 1RY.
In these Terms, “Magrathean”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Magrathean UK Ltd. “You” means the person, business or organisation that downloads, installs, accesses or uses the Product.
Contact: [email protected].
2. What these Terms cover
These Terms apply to:
- the Teslacam native macOS application;
- any Teslacam iPadOS/iOS application or build that we make available;
- the
teslacam-cliPython command-line tool; - product documentation, downloads, release builds, updates, repository materials and bundled resources;
- the Teslacam website and related Magrathean pages that link to these Terms;
- support, licences, purchases and subscriptions where offered.
The “Product” or “Software” means all of the above.
You must not use the Product unless you accept these Terms. If you use the Product on behalf of a business, public authority, fleet operator, employer, insurer or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation.
3. Important warnings
Teslacam processes vehicle-camera footage. Footage may include personal data about drivers, passengers, pedestrians, neighbours, children, number plates, homes, workplaces, locations, timestamps, driving patterns and other identifiable information.
You are solely responsible for making sure that your collection, retention, processing, export and sharing of footage is lawful.
The Product is not a forensic certification tool, evidence-management system, legal-advice service, CCTV compliance service, police-reporting service, cloud backup service or emergency service.
Exports are derivative files. They may change layout, camera selection, frame selection, timing, resolution, compression, codec, audio, metadata, route display, telemetry display and visual overlays. You should keep your original TeslaCam files unchanged if footage may be needed for insurance, police, legal, evidential or dispute purposes.
The privacy mask feature is a basic visual overlay. It is not automatic anonymisation, face blurring, number-plate redaction, voice removal, metadata removal, route removal or legal clearance to publish footage. You must review every export before sharing it.
4. Ownership
Teslacam, the website, software, trade dress, documentation, product names, layouts, designs, text, build resources and proprietary code are owned by Magrathean UK Ltd or its licensors.
Public availability of a repository, binary, source file, release, script or documentation does not grant any right to copy, modify, redistribute, sublicense, host, resell, commercialise or use the Product outside these Terms or a separate written licence from Magrathean.
All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
5. Licence
Subject to these Terms, Magrathean grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to install and use the Product for lawful personal use or lawful internal business use.
You may use the Product to browse, analyse, trim, compose and export TeslaCam or Sentry Mode footage that you are lawfully entitled to process.
You may not:
- copy, redistribute, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, host, provide as a managed service, or make the Product available to third parties except as expressly permitted by us in writing;
- remove copyright notices, licence notices, trademarks or attribution notices;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Product except to the extent the law does not allow us to restrict that activity;
- use the Product to build or train a competing product or service;
- bypass licensing, payment, app-store, access-control or technical-protection measures;
- use the Product in a way that is unlawful, harmful, misleading, abusive or likely to damage Magrathean, users, bystanders or third parties.
If a separate written agreement, app-store licence, enterprise agreement or paid licence applies to your copy of the Product, that agreement applies in addition to these Terms. If there is a direct conflict, the more specific written agreement controls for that conflict.
6. Third-party components and tools
The Product may use or interoperate with third-party components and tools, including Apple platform frameworks, ffmpeg, ffprobe, x265, Python, Swift, GitHub, PyPI, app-store distribution systems and operating-system services.
Third-party components are subject to their own licences and terms. You must comply with those terms.
The CLI may require you to install or provide ffmpeg and ffprobe. Magrathean is not responsible for third-party binaries, packages, package managers, codecs, hardware encoders, system libraries, operating-system behaviour or third-party licence compliance.
7. Tesla trademarks and non-affiliation
Tesla, TeslaCam, Sentry Mode and related marks are trademarks or registered trademarks of Tesla, Inc.
Teslacam is independent software. Magrathean UK Ltd is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected with Tesla, Inc., Apple Inc., the ffmpeg project, x265, GitHub, PyPI or any vehicle manufacturer.
References to third-party names exist only for descriptive interoperability and identification. All third-party marks remain the property of their respective owners.
8. Lawful footage use
You must use the Product only with footage that you are legally entitled to access and process.
You are responsible for:
- ensuring that the original recording was lawful;
- complying with data protection, CCTV, dashcam, employment, tenancy, road-traffic, surveillance, harassment, evidence, confidentiality, intellectual-property and platform rules that apply to your footage;
- giving notices or handling rights requests where required;
- limiting exports to what is necessary;
- securing source files, exports, reports, manifests and support files;
- deleting footage when no longer needed;
- reviewing footage before sharing it;
- avoiding unlawful publication of faces, children, number plates, locations, private premises or sensitive incidents.
You must not use the Product to stalk, harass, intimidate, dox, discriminate against, blackmail, shame, unlawfully surveil, unlawfully identify or unlawfully track any person.
If you are a business, employer, fleet operator, landlord, insurer, journalist, investigator, public authority or other organisation, you are responsible for your own data protection compliance and for any notices, policies, lawful bases, retention schedules, DPIAs, data-sharing agreements and processor arrangements required for your use.
9. Local processing, files and exports
The Product is designed primarily for local processing. The app or CLI may read selected source folders, video files, event metadata, thumbnails, timestamps, camera files, local paths and vehicle telemetry. It may create local settings, bookmarks, logs, temporary work files, dry-run manifests, reports, poster images and exported movies.
You are responsible for choosing where source files and exports are stored and for keeping them secure.
The Product may overwrite, replace or remove output files or temporary files as part of normal export behaviour, depending on the selected settings, operating system and toolchain. Always keep backups of important source footage before using any media tool.
The Product may remove incomplete or partial exports after a failed or cancelled export. The Product may clean stale temporary folders where it can access them. We do not guarantee that temporary files, logs or outputs will always be removed automatically.
10. Reports, screenshots, route maps and telemetry overlays
The Product may generate or display reports, screenshots, posters, route maps, telemetry HUDs, timestamp overlays, camera layouts, health summaries and dry-run manifests.
These materials can contain personal data or sensitive context, including dates, times, vehicle speed, location route, street/city information, autopilot status, braking, steering, camera names, file names and local paths.
You must treat reports, screenshots, dry-run manifests and logs as potentially sensitive. Do not publish or send them unless you have reviewed them and have a lawful basis to disclose them.
11. No forensic or legal guarantee
The Product is intended as a convenience tool for browsing and exporting footage. It does not guarantee:
- that an export is complete, accurate, chronological, admissible, authentic or forensically sound;
- that timestamps, route data, telemetry, speed, headings, camera labels, layouts or reports are accurate;
- that duplicates, gaps, missing cameras, corrupt files, dropped frames, codec errors or clock errors will be detected;
- that privacy mode or privacy masks anonymise footage;
- that an export will satisfy an insurer, court, police force, regulator, employer or other decision-maker.
You should keep original files, document your workflow and seek appropriate legal or forensic advice where footage matters for a claim, prosecution, defence, complaint, disciplinary process or other serious matter.
12. App stores, purchases, subscriptions and refunds
Where the Product is supplied through an app store, package repository, marketplace or payment provider, the relevant platform’s terms, purchase process and refund rules may also apply.
Where the Product is sold directly by Magrathean, the price, taxes, billing period, renewal terms, cancellation route and refund route shown at checkout apply.
If a subscription is offered, it will continue for the stated billing period and renew on the stated terms unless cancelled through the relevant platform or account mechanism before renewal.
Nothing in these Terms affects mandatory consumer rights.
If you are a UK or EEA consumer buying digital content, you may have a statutory cancellation right. If you request or consent to immediate supply of digital content and acknowledge that this may affect your cancellation right, you may lose that cancellation right once supply begins, to the extent permitted by applicable law. If an app store handles the purchase, cancellation and refund requests may need to be made through that app store.
13. Support
We may provide documentation, release notes, email support or issue-tracker support at our discretion.
Unless we have agreed a separate paid support contract, we do not guarantee response times, fixes, compatibility updates, feature delivery, backwards compatibility, continued availability of any build, or support for a particular operating system, device, Python version, codec, ffmpeg build, Tesla firmware version or file format.
If you send support materials, do not send footage, logs, reports or manifests unless necessary. Support materials may contain personal data. You are responsible for redacting or limiting them before sending.
14. Updates and changes
We may modify, suspend, remove or replace any Product feature, documentation, download, build, website page, pricing plan or support channel.
Updates may change behaviour, file compatibility, export formats, presets, reports, telemetry handling, privacy mode, layout options, command-line flags or third-party dependencies.
You are responsible for testing the Product before using it in a critical workflow.
15. Availability and compatibility
The Product may not work with all vehicles, all Tesla firmware versions, all TeslaCam file structures, all cameras, all operating systems, all hardware, all codecs, all ffmpeg builds, all file-system permissions or all storage devices.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the website, downloads, documentation, app-store listings or support.
16. Security
You must use the Product in a secure environment and protect your source footage, drives, folders, outputs, logs, dry-run manifests, reports and support attachments.
You must not introduce malware, attack the website, interfere with downloads, misuse support channels, bypass technical measures, scrape excessively, or attempt unauthorised access to any Magrathean system.
If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, contact [email protected] and do not publicly disclose it until we have had a reasonable opportunity to investigate and mitigate it.
17. Privacy
Our Privacy Notice explains how we process personal data and how local footage processing works.
You must read the Privacy Notice before using the Product. The Privacy Notice forms part of these Terms where relevant.
If you process footage about other people, you are responsible for your own legal basis, notices, retention, security, rights handling and sharing decisions.
18. User submissions and feedback
If you send us feedback, suggestions, issue reports, logs, screenshots, manifests, reports, exports or other materials, you grant Magrathean a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, analyse and adapt those materials for support, troubleshooting, security, product improvement and legal purposes.
This licence does not transfer ownership of your footage to us. It allows us to handle the materials you choose to send.
You confirm that you have the right to send us any materials you provide and that doing so does not breach law or third-party rights. Do not send unlawful, excessive, confidential or sensitive materials unless necessary and authorised.
19. Acceptable use of website and downloads
You must not:
- attack, disrupt, overload, scan or misuse the website, downloads, infrastructure or support channels;
- use bots, scraping or automated access in a way that harms service availability;
- upload or transmit malware;
- impersonate Magrathean or misrepresent your relationship with us;
- use the website or Product to infringe intellectual property, privacy, data protection, confidentiality or other rights;
- use the Product in breach of sanctions, export controls or applicable law.
20. Intellectual-property claims
If you believe material made available by Magrathean infringes your rights, contact [email protected] with enough information for us to assess the complaint.
We may remove or disable access to material while we investigate.
21. Disclaimers
The Product is provided “as is” and “as available” to the fullest extent permitted by law.
We do not promise that the Product will be error-free, secure, uninterrupted, compatible with all files or systems, or suitable for your particular purpose.
We do not promise that exports, reports, timestamps, telemetry, route maps, camera layouts, privacy masks, health summaries or dry-run manifests will be accurate, complete or legally sufficient.
The Product may produce large files and may consume significant CPU, GPU, memory, battery, storage and time. You are responsible for checking disk capacity, backups, device condition and output quality.
22. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or your mandatory consumer rights.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for business losses suffered by consumers, including loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
If you are using the Product for business or organisational purposes, then, to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we exclude all implied warranties, conditions, representations and terms that may apply to the Product;
- we are not liable for indirect, consequential, special, incidental or punitive loss;
- we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, goodwill, reputation, business, opportunity, anticipated savings, data, footage, evidence value, contracts or production;
- we are not liable for unlawful or inappropriate recording, retention, export, disclosure or publication of footage by you or anyone who obtains footage from you;
- our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Product is limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you paid Magrathean for the Product in the 12 months before the event giving rise to liability; or (b) £100.
23. Indemnity for business users
If you use the Product for business, professional, fleet, employment, insurance, investigation, media, public-sector or organisational purposes, you agree to indemnify Magrathean against losses, claims, damages, fines, penalties, costs and expenses arising from:
- your footage collection, retention, processing, export, sharing or publication;
- your breach of data protection, CCTV, privacy, employment, surveillance, road-traffic, confidentiality or platform rules;
- your breach of these Terms;
- your support submissions or other materials you send us;
- claims by people shown, identified or affected by footage you process or share.
This indemnity does not apply to the extent the loss is caused by Magrathean’s own breach of these Terms or by liability that cannot legally be excluded.
24. Termination
You may stop using the Product at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your access to downloads, support, licences, subscriptions or services if you breach these Terms, fail to pay amounts due, misuse the Product, create legal risk, or use the Product unlawfully.
On termination, you must stop using the Product and, where required by us or by your licence, delete copies in your possession. Clauses intended to survive termination will continue, including ownership, restrictions, privacy, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and governing law.
25. Export controls and sanctions
You must not use, export, re-export, download or transfer the Product in breach of applicable sanctions, export-control or trade-control laws.
You must not use the Product in a country, territory or context where doing so would expose Magrathean to unlawful sanctions or trade-control risk.
26. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide notice through the website, app, release notes or app-store page.
Your continued use of the Product after updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, you must stop using the Product.
27. Assignment
You may not assign, transfer or sublicense your rights under these Terms without our written consent.
We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations to an affiliate, successor, purchaser or operator of the relevant business or assets, provided this does not reduce any mandatory consumer rights.
28. Severance
If any part of these Terms is found unlawful or unenforceable, that part will be treated as modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it lawful and enforceable. If that is not possible, it will be deleted. The rest of the Terms will continue.
29. No waiver
If we do not enforce a right immediately, that does not mean we waive it. A waiver is only effective if given in writing.
30. Third-party rights
Except where these Terms expressly say otherwise, no person other than you and Magrathean has rights to enforce these Terms.
31. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer resident in the United Kingdom, you may bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where you live. If you are a consumer resident in the EEA or elsewhere, you retain any mandatory rights and protections under the law of your country of residence.
If you are using the Product for business or organisational purposes, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Product.
